California Darling

At last, I sit out on my patio looking over a chocolaty river that is flowing wider and faster than it had the days before. Little green buds are stretching as they yawn on the precipice of awakening while I tempt the blazing sun into giving me a slight reprimand for the lack of sunscreen on my skin. While soaking in the serenades of birds singing their springiest songs, I can tell that summer has finally unpacked its best sundress and is on its way to visit the Colorado Rockies. With such promises of sunshine and summer I found it to be the perfect conditions to unveil another of my California inspired creations, the one and only, California Beach Darling.

Her boho vibes bounced onto my page as I sat on my "in-laws" comfy couch that overlooks the beautiful ocean which seemed to wave and wink back at me from its California Coastline. Sprawled out over my mind was a scene of lush greens, cascading blues and sultry yellows of a sun ready to sleep. In the midst of this melting pot of calm, beauty and movements stands the cool California boho-beach version of my soul. Wrapped in a flowy ensemble, with sandy assortment of hairs that wave like the ocean in the subtle and smooth breeze that glides off the water to bathe me in a state of bliss.

This Sunkissed and groovy moment where I sat with the beach in the palm of my souls outstretched hand came back to me while I found myself in the cold clutches of winter's frosty heart. Shivering in the dim hours of the evening I found myself groping about for the days of sunshine on the California coast. I felt nostalgia swim up to the shores of my mind as the memory of feeling the sun splashing my face while the cool ocean breeze caressed my skin. I decided it would only be right to relive these glorious moments through my iPad while I recreated my California darling in a larger digital format. Mixing a watercolor medium with soft pastels to preserve the playful nature of the piece while creating a soft and gentle structure I watched as my cozy creation sprang itself to life. Now, when I look at this California Darling, I am taken back to my days spent staring out at the coastline with the beach resting peacefully at the palm of my hand and I can't help but feel a little groovy delight.
